MTS: VKontakte overtakes Telegram by number of mobile users
MOSCOW, Aug 17 (PRIME) -- Russian social network VKontakte has outstripped Telegram for the first time in 18 months by the number of mobile Internet users, mobile operator MTS’ Big Data analysts said on Thursday in a research.
“For the first time since January 2022, VKontakte has left Telegram behind by popularity among the users of the mobile Internet and has become Russia’s most visited social network. VKontakte broke the trend in July by getting a 33.1% share of the users of all social networks. The top three also include Telegram and Odnoklassniki with 32.8% and 20.6% of the users, respectively,” the analysts said.
Telegram left VKontakte behind for the first time by the monthly audience in MTS’ mobile network in February 2022. When access to foreign social networks was restricted in March 2022, the users joined Telegram that strengthened its positions throughout 2022–2023 and turned into the main source of news and entertainment content.
In the total volume of mobile Internet traffic, Telegram keeps its leadership with 60%, while VKontakte has 22% and Odnoklassniki 18.7%.
